Cousins? A Small misconception

To set the record straight about what seems to be a popular misconception around here:

Interim Police Chief Tim Bellamy is no more related to City Councilwoman T. Dianne Bellamy-Small than I am to Rev. Nelson Johnson. Or Magic Johnson Or Lyndon Baines Johnson, for that matter.

Bellamy, the chief says he met Bellamy-Small, the councilwoman, only 10 years ago.

That's not to say the two may not be at least distantly related. They can trace their ancestry back to Horry County, S.C.But cousins? So far as Bellamy knows, they are not.

But reports of their being related persist.

City Councilwoman Sandy Carmany blogged in April 2006, in answer to an anonymous question about Small and Bellamy-Small: "Yes, Dianne told me they are cousins."

Allen,

Sorry if my statement created confusion, but Dianne did indeed say that to me and I passed it along. ???

Hard to set the record straight when you've got the players contributing to the misinfo aint it?

So shocking.

I would think that the bigger concern would be that DBS is actually the police chief in drag.
Think about it. You can get those realistic- looking dreadlock wigs. The whole story about DBS"s traffic ticket could have just been a ruse to throw people off.

Has anyone seen them in the same room together?

So Dianne Bellamy-Small lied to fellow councilperson Sandy Carmany. What else is new ? DBS lies about lots of things.

I think what DBS meant was that, in Greensboro, we are all family. I know I feel that way.

Group hug, Couz!!

Sandy, it's interesting that Dianne told you this. It's also interesting that reports of this relationship have been widely adopted as fact. It would be nice to have Dianne clarify this -- if she would talk to us.

It doesnt matter. Her credability is shot with most folks in this town anyway. Recalled, defeated, re-elected whatever she will be useless in the future as a council member. No more than a source of entertainment or embarrasment depending on your view. Sad really.

Now, will Project Homestead rear its ugly head again. I wonder if numerous "other shoes" are about to fall?!

Why wouldn't it be adopted as fact, since DBS is telling people it's fact?

This isn't exactly like one of those internet urban myths. It's hard for me to blame anyone for believing it to be true if one of the two parties is saying it.

Okay, pull out the lie-detecter.

Allen,

It's no surprise that DBS won't talk to you. She only communicates via fax, so send your questons to her by fax, and she will consider whether she will give you an answer.

Allen,

All I can suggest is to ask Dianne about it. I clearly remember the details of our conversation and don't think I misunderstood what she said to me.

I'll try. This is a minute detail in the overall scheme of things. But strange nevertheless.

There is an innocent explanation, offered only for argument's sake: it's possible that DBS knows that they are cousins and TB doesn't, if cousin means something like "third cousin thrice removed." My father had 13 aunts and uncles, and I'm forever meeting people who may or may not be related to me (I have no idea who "Aunt Toodles" is or what he aunthood is supposed to signify).

Skeet Club Savage said:

Allen, I haven't read today's paper, but are they going to set up this Chris Daughtry thing right up in the middle of Elm. St. or is it in a field or park type area?

Savage:
The concert stage will be set up on Hamburger Square.

Tim Bellany says they've had conversations about being related, but suggests that they didn't conclude for sure that they're cousins.
But given that, one way or the other, they definitely aren't closely related, I don't think it matters a whole lot. I was just curious.

Allen Johnson said:

For the record, I have called Bellamy-Small at both her numbers. She did not attend today's news conference announcing the new police chief.

Skeet Club Savage said:

Thanks, Allen.

Coliseum Cafe at 1904 Coliseum Blvd. has the petition to recall DBS from office.

As stated above her creditability is shot. Her evern mentioning that they were cousins when she got stopped was unneccessary.
