This is a good if not surprising choice. Bellamy has run the department well as interim chief under very trying circumstances.

When someone told me at lunch, "Well, Bellamy's the new police chief." I had to ask, "Which one, Tim or Diane?"

Seriously, my best wishes to Chief Tim Bellamy. He has a hard row to hoe and a lot of work to do, but I believe he's up to it. I worked with him years ago and found him to be intelligent and serious. He was always a bit less gregarious than his contemporaries, but with good organizational skills and down to earth common sense.

Interestingly, I have yet to hear one negative syllable about Tim Bellamy.
