City bank

Word that more than one hotel has expressed interest in the Canada Dry property near the Greensboro Coliseum raises an obvious question: If private developers are willing to purchase the property, why does the city need to bid for it?

There would be a case for the taxpayers footing the bill -- in the interest of sparking revitalization on High Point Road -- if no other options existed. They apparently do.

One even offered to incorporate an ACC Hall of Champions as part of its proposal.

I wouldn't be surprised if the City bought it and *gave* it to a private developer as another taxpayer funded "incentive."

I wonder if any hotel would be able to handle the competition from the Coliseum Hotel just across the street? :>

BTW, Allen -- when are your web guys going to get these blogs to actually remember posters when asked to?

A private hotel project would be nice for "jump starting" the area. Preferable to a tax payer funded project, But CVM expansion is a factor here too. This piece has been for sale for some time. As for the Realtors info..... we've all heard that line about another buyer before now havent we?

Of course a nice big hotel would be perfect for all those swimmers utilizing the new competitive pool..... oh never mind.

Looks like some of the folks over at A&T need to get out there and hire schoolboard atty. Jill Wilson, famous for opining that it's perfectly legal to award vendor contracts to such persons as live-in lovers-as long as the parties are not legally married, ASAP. It appears doubtful that the vice chancellor's exec. assistant's mom is legally married to the vice chancellor, so what's the issue?

This technicality also has repeatedly passed muster with the eds. at the N&R, so somebody has to bring whomever is handing out those indictments up to speed with how things are done here in GC.
