Recall reservations
A footnote to our first round of election interviews:
Luther Falls is the second opponent of incumbent T. Dianne Bellamy-Small in District 1 to acknowledge that he voted against her recall.
Falls said he disagreed with the recall in principle, and that he believes the city should revise its standards for recall elections.
Falls barely lost to Bellamy-Small in the 2005 election.
Another serious contender for Bellamy-Small's seat, Tonya Clinkscale, also said no to the recall.

As a matter of retail politics, they'd be pretty stupid to come out in favor of the recall, which failed badly. I'm not sure what the significance of this is, other than identifying the candidates as having some basic political competence.

It didn't fail all that badly. But you're right, there was little to gain from voting for the recall. No matter what he or she thought about Bellamy-Small, no candidate would want to be viewed in District 1 as a tool of outside interests.

I find that the comment that Mr. Falls makes, in regards to the recall, to be very uneducated. In the sense, that, it is not the City Council who determines and makes whatever revisions of standards to a recall. It is a constitutional right!!
The fact that the recall was initiated, allowed people like Mr. Falls, and anyone else like to realize, that if your conduct of character is out of touch with your constituency, then they have the right to recall you. In this case, whether is was relevant or irrelevant, the point was made to insure that the citizens have an avenue of redressing their elected representatives. What's so hard to understand with that principle?!! Are you people that astute, to think that because you voted against the recall, the incumbent's conduct of character is worthy of being a representative for District 1?
It doesn't matter whether the person who initiated the recall petition doesn't reside in the district. Am I not correct, to tell you people that he has a business there? So therefor, in your minds, because he doesn't live in the district he shouldn't have the right to initiate a petition for recall. Is it because he is white? First and foremost people. He is a United States citizen just like you, and pays taxes just like you. The incumbents' conduct of character is raised because the man has a business in the district, and he hears the same ills of the incumbent's actions, just like the rest of us; and he wanted to take some action! I'm glad this came to be (the recall). It is to let all elected people know, that you are not above the constitutionality of the law. And furthermore, so what if the incumbent is black! The African American community is not the ONLY minorities in this community, and other community for these reasons! And so what, if the person who initiated the recall is white! Guess what? He has constitutional rights,too. At least he didn't use the racial tones that this whole recall was made out to be by the incumbent and the Pulpit Forum divas!
