Earlier endorsements?
An e-mail today from a reader:
it would be beneficial if the news and record political endorsements were presented earlier to aid "early" voters in less familiar races...thank you.
We've tried to be more responsive to that concern. That's why the county bonds editorials ran last Sunday. But logisitically it can be difficult to do all the homework and interview all the candidates that soon -- especially candidates running statewide.
We'll see what we can do differently in the general election.

Don't do anything. Elections play out until the end--ask George Bush about drunk driving--and your endorsements should reflect that. Since early voting is mainly a concession to lazy people, there's no need to indulge them.

If you are following newspapers endorsements , just go in and vote straight democrat. I have read newspapers for 60 years, and have never see a republican endorsed for any major office, unless running unopposed.

Doug, you haven't been reading very closely then.

We'll be on the look out and see how many Republicans the N&R endorses Mr. Johnson. It likely won't be for president, senate or governor, perhaps the mayor of a small town somewhere. I find it interesting that voters rely on a newspaper to make their decisions, especially with the amount of information available on line.
As the N&R serves to aid voters and the NC primary is less than two weeks away, perhaps the N&R should issue an endorsement of either Clinton or Obama soon.
