Dudley-Grimsley

I was happy to hear that my alma mater, Dudley High School, soundly defeated Grimsley Thursday night.

I was not happy to read on our Web site that a huge fight followed and that two students were arrested.

I'm sure more details will follow in the morning. And I hope this incident wasn't gang-related.

Whatever the cause, it is a shame and it is inexcusable.

Surely you were not surprised -

This is sad news. School safety is and has been a real problem in Guilford County for some time.

One thing I don't understand, though -- if there were 150 people involved, why were only two arrested?

Have you already started a full N&R investigation into why 150 people involved and only 2 arrests?

Don't expect any indepth reporting from the N&R on this story,or any other local stories of interest. Your best bet is to wait until next week's "Yes Weekly" or "Rhino Times" comes out.

The N&R is phoning it in.

Sonja Elmquist has a follow story coming in tomorrow's paper.

No doubt it will Pulitzer material.

Allen Johnson said:

Absolutely. Almost as thoughtful as your post.

My daughter and her friends received texts of trouble and possible arrests after Ragsdale v Northwest gane too.

So it looks like it's not gang-related, but it is turf-related. A "simple affray." That sounds about right: if there's no weapons and no innocent bystanders involved--i.e. two groups that just want to duke it out for whatever reason--then I'm on board with the "simple affray" designation. Also looks like a good opportunity for a boxing club.

As a child who participated in this great character building youth program called RELAY; I think Greensboro missed a golden opportunity to guide our children in a positive and lifelong successful direction. Visit the "www.americaschildrelay.com" website and see what I'm talking about. Lately, I'm finding that the "Johnsons" have a great deal to do with why this great program is not available and helping children/youth today. Mitch Johnson helped delete it in the early 1990's; Yvonne Johnson refuses to entertain or even discuss the possibility of bringing the program back; and Alan Johnson, Ted told me that on several occasions he'd talked to you; and like the others, you've just ignored the vast potential this program offers. Does the "Johnson name" have a DNA link to "Bush"?
