Palin aftershocks shake the GOP
In reports in media outlets that include Fox News, some former McCain aides have attacked Sarah Palin for helpng to sink the campaign.
Among their pointed jabs at Palin, Fox News reported, the unnamed aides said:
-- Palin resisted coaching before her notoriously bad Katie Couric interviews.
-- She did not understand that Africa was a continent not a country.
-- She could not name the three nations that are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement: the United States, Canada and Mexico.
-- She hurt the campaign by being duped in a prank radio interview by a Canadian radio host who posed as the president of France.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina GOP has come to Palin's defense.
A Friday press release from state GOP Chairwoman Linda Daves called the criticisms "cowardly, unsigned statements and whisper campaigns" that attempt "to pin this loss on the choice of Sarah Palin as a vice-presidential nominee."
The release continues: "Not only was Sarah Palin the first Republican woman to ever be nominated for the position, representing a significant step forward for the Republican Party, she also presented herself as a strong and capable leader in touch with regular people across America. She deserves our thanks for her unique contributions to our campaign and our Party. During this campaign, she inspired millions of Americans both with her life story and ability to articulate common sense conservative principles and relate them to the issues and challenges that face America. Those trying to disparage her to save their own political careers should be ashamed. The North Carolina Republican Party stands up for Sarah Palin."
If the attacks are true, they could hurt Palin's political aspirations.
But they also are unflattering to the McCain folks, and not only call into question how well they vetted Palin but how staunchly they defended her throughout the campaign.
Somebody wasn't expressing straight talk.

Ah, yes...the N&R's forte--printing unfounded stories before the truth is known.
Chief Wray
Guilford College "race" brawl
Etc., etc., etc.
And you claim you have no liberal bias?
Allen, here's hoping you take the early retirement buyout...

The story originated on Fox News, which is not typically considered in the tank for liberals.

I believe the news stories accentuated the "alleged" nature of these attacks, something which I find remiss in most N&R reports of things like these.
I also found that the N&R gave short shrift to many negative "allegations" against Obama.
Wonder why the disparity, hmm?

Strange, Mccain campaign manager was on Fox News and said this was all BS. Then what was Palin big sin, she came to the door in a towel, wish I had been the door knocker! Real story she was in suite, when people were in there she was unaware of. She did not know that Africa was a country BS. Here the other side. She gave a speech on it!She brought to many clothes! They were purchased by a outsider, the used one were giving to charity, the used one returned.
Your paper has implied she did porn movies, prove it!'
Your paper has implied she was stupid, Stick your thumb in your mouth and blow real hard. Then tell us about the NC versus Alaska. financial condition and taxes of the people of NC. Do not remember your paper getting upset, by the governor wife roaming the world on the taxes payer money, Easily using state plane for vacations, are using sate money to improve his property.Unnamed sources, now that's real news!

Allen Johnson and I have not always agreed. However, he is one of the finest men I have ever met. The mean spirit of many of these comments is not right. You can disagree with a man's ideas but personal attacks are not right.
Newspapers are supposed to be objective. In my dealings with Allen Johnson he has always been a professional objective journalist.
Several comment above also criticize a liberal bias. It seems that you do not see a need to hide your conservative bias.

I have never hid my conservative bias. However I do believe in FACTS. Everything Mr. Johnson printed is hearsay, from unnamed sources. I am not question what kind of man, Mr. Johnson is, I however think he should have FACTS to back him up. I ask you the same question, who is doing the best job running a state. Palin or Easley?, So why not be knocking Easley. Ditiah Harris a school teacher in NC, harassed students that back McCain. If this had happen to Obama liberals like Mr. Johnson would have went wild. However being this happened to a Mc Cain student, this is perfectly ok, with the liberal press. Professional journalist in my opinion should state facts. With BS like this theory should state in my opinion. Now my opinion if the state does not fire this teacher, they should be ashamed.

Darn, it get better Carl Cameron, has a notorious reputation for spreading rumors.
He is also said to be great at making them up.
Source Fox News. Like wise heard Obama threw Nancy Regan, under the bus! Were Doug Clark when you need him? Tigerheel, this the reason newspapers are tanking! They never let fact get in the way of their version of the truth. What I expect from a newspaper is the truth as best they can. Is that to much?
Posted on November 9, 2008 8:39 AM
I'm confused, Doug. Are you saying Fox News makes things up?
Posted on November 9, 2008 5:40 PM
Tigerwheel:
Thanks for the nice words. I try to be fair and respectful, especially with those whose views differ with mine.
I don't always succeed, but I try. That's how you learn.
Posted on November 9, 2008 5:58 PM
That is to say, Doug, that I find it odd you're blaming the N&R for a story broken by Fox.
Posted on November 9, 2008 6:16 PM
So, Allen, you're defending running an unsubstantiated and unproven story which trashes a Republican but at the same time the N&R refused to print a very substantiated story about John Edwards' Love child because it was "just rumor" from a trash tabloid?
My, how your ethics will mold to fit your liberal positions.
Posted on November 10, 2008 4:01 PM
You don't consider Fox News more reputable than the Enquirer, Jaycee?
Posted on November 10, 2008 4:05 PM
Fox News reported on Edwards. Why didnt you report that Fox reported that the Enquiror reported Edwards had a girlfriend and a love child?
Posted on November 10, 2008 4:23 PM
I think JR already addressed this. What does that have to do with Palin?

Palin "leaker" from "inside McCain camp" is a hoax:
