Retreat, Part II
You may remember that Commissioner Bruce Davis has decided to hold the board's annual retreat in Chapel Hill this month, rather than somewhere in Guilford County.
The board's Republicans don't like that idea and have kicked up a bit of a fuss. Here's the continuation of the fuss:
The short version: It looks like the commissioners (and Scoop) are going on a road trip at the end of the month.
Update (1/12): In Bruce Davis' memo he reports that a concerned citizen had offered a check to pay for the retreat. That check, Davis said, has been returned. Davis also said that the Institute of Government has changed its rental policy and that using the building will be free for the retreat.
Of course, as Steve Arnold and others point out, even if there are no other costs the county will still be reimbursing some folks for travel mileage.

Bruce Davis is receiving checks from "concerned taxpayers?" Are these to the County's general fund? To Commissioner Davis personally? Are they campaign contributions? Gifts? Are they being reported as such? Who is sliding Mr. Davis a few hundred bucks here and there and why?

I got this comment from a reader (Terry Fuchs) today who had problems with our commenting system:
"I don't understand why Mr. Davis feels that a Commissioner retreat will be more productive if held in Chapel Hill. I offer to him these suggestions: Have the retreat locally, pretend that he is in Chapel Hill (for whatever reason that he insists on having it there) and then donate that kindly donated monies to the Guilford County Schools."

Were the democrat commissioners out of town when they decided that they needed lifetime medical insurance at taxpayers expence.
