St. James Homes, Skip Alson and Linda Shaw

This morning, our Margaret Banks writes about Republican County Commissioner Linda Shaw's contact with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development leading up to the agency's withdrawal of $900,000 in grants to fix up the St. James II apartment complex.

On Sunday, we wrote about the two managers of St. James II and their accusations that the city's establishment brought about the demise of the low-income apartments on Eugene Street. In a letter to the city (read here), Donald and Sarah Graham allege that the "Greensboro Mafia," namely "city leaders and Down Town Greensboro, Inc.(sic)" wanted the apartments to fail so they could be bulldozed.

While not on the City Council's agenda for tonight, St. James and Commissioner Skip Alston's remark that the city staff is "racist" may be a topic of discussion among council members at the end of the meeting.

Linda Shaw tells the truth.

Amen, to that Mr. Taxpayer. All I can add is that the truth does not discriminate.

I was wrong, I can add one other thing.

Does Mr. Alston think the City of Greensboro was racist when it loaned him $200,000 for new his barbecue venture? And if this action is racist is it racist at the point the loan was made or at the point in the future when the loan needs to be repaid?

Mr&mrs Graham should get the money from Mr Skip Alston. He has a million dollars, that was supposed to be used for repairs that were never made.do we expect the taxpayers to pay again.

I used to deal with Community Action, Earl Jones' now defunct group that was supposed to help the needy find jobs and housing. I tried to offer them both jobs and housing, but I never got any feedback from anyone there, even after 39 recorded phone calls to them. It was an amazing display of financial disfunction, and somewhere along the line, $700,000.00 slipped through the cracks. I was friends with one of the most informed members of the staff, and she stated, and I quote, "I do not trust Skip Alston in any way. He uses black people as pawns in his own game, and they do not realize it."
This lady was African-American, by the way. Mister Alston simply has to account for the monies he was given to renovate and keep St. James within code ordinances, and we can then go on to Mr. and Mrs. Graham, who would never have been in the picture at all if Alston had done his job, and spent the money in a correct way. Anyone can scream racism, but to be a true representative of the taxpayers takes a little bit more. Mister Alston, the voters are waiting.

Mr. Skip Alston is this true.

I guess City of Greensboro are racist, if Skippy was white he would have to account for every dime of the 900,000 dollars and if he didn't he would be in jail now. I can't believe the City allows him to get away with this..Maybe if you looks on Vandalia Rd. they might find where alot of the city's money went..
