Greensboro, as seen by the Great White North
For more about what people outside the Triad are hearing about Greensboro and the 1979 Morningside Homes shootings, check out this radio story broadcast nationally by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. In it, host Anna Maria Tremonti talks with attorney Harold Greeson, Rev. Nelson Johnson and city council member Florence Gatten. You can hear the audio of the story here (It starts a minute or two into the recording).
The Washington Post also had a story about the Greensboro Truth and Community Reconciliation Project a week ago.

What makes Greensboro "look bad" isn't refreshing the nation's memory on what happened (*I* remember; Greensboro was in the national evening TV news every night for a week), but the resistance to the commission on the part of the Mayor and City Council.
It looks pretty bad when Greensboro's purported "leaders" essentially oppose truth and seem uninterested in reconciliation.

Am I the only person that see the "Truth and Reconciliation" group for what they are? Young people today may not know or remember the REAL actions that day. Go back to the Court Records. Even the Greensboro paper gave a very accurate account of what happened that day. It is free. You only need a computer to access the information. The Comunist group dared the Klan-Nazi people with their "Death to the Klan March" They accepted the challenge, and came at the schedule time, in their cars, or trucks. They were there with their wives also (one of them was noticeable pregnant). The Comunists began attacking their cars with 4x4, rocks, and whatever they could get their hands on. What will you do in similar situation? Will you let a group of fanatics insult you, attack with danger of personal injury? The Klan-Nazi had weapons inside the trunk of their cars. Remember, these people go hunting often. They are good marks. They don't miss ofte. Remember they are also retired from the Armed Services. They knew how to use these weapons.Their arms were not out when the attack began. The communists were killed mostly with their own arms, as they did not know how to use them. They only had a lot of talk and hot air. They also selected a neighborhood that was compossed of African-American citizens, and not too well off. That was to make the Klan-Nazi look even worse. As I say, the information is available to the poublic. Also the Court records. The fact that they were let go (2 times) should tell you something. Sometimes what you think you see is not necessarily the reality. Let this happening rest before it becomes a real problem.

This was sent to another blog on this subject and also to Jill Williams, head of the TRC.
She asked if I had further comments and I sent along a few along the same lines, asking why such was necessary. I have heard nothing else from her or her organization. Perhaps my anology was a little too close to the heart of the matter.
===============================================
In this anology there is a lesson of truth that all may take advantage of.
When I was a little boy I had a turtle for a pet. Unfortunately because of some
unforseen circumstances my little critter died. I was really upset over the
situation.
My Dad told me there was nothing more I could do. So I found a piece of an old
blanket, wrapped my little critter in it, got an old oatmeal box and put my
beloved pet inside and went out side and gave it a proper burial. Of course I
invited all my friends to attend.
A week or so later I decided that maybe there was something I could do to for my
turtle. I got my shovel and went to retrieve the corpse and check things out
for myself.
Now,my Dad, being the wise man that he was, said."Son if you dig it up after all
this time it will stink and there is nothing more you can do."
Of course I did not listen, I wanted to see for myself. I proceeded to dig up my
little critter thinking just perhaps it had crawled back into the shell and
gone to sleep. I retrieved the oatmeal box, opened it up. The turtle was dead. I
had given it a proper burial.
I had ignored the words of wiser voices and went right ahead and dug it up and
wow, did it ever stink.
I should have listened.
