On the agenda
During the General Assembly session, Sen. Kay Hagan regularly sends out a mass e-mail letting folks know what she has been up to and how bills of concern to Greensboro are doing.
In her latest epistle, Hagan summarizes the legislative agenda for the Piedmont Triad Legislative delegation. Hagan chairs the group, which includes all the House and Senate members from the Triad area.
The agenda for this session includes:
State money for an ACC Hall of Champions near the Greensboro Coliseum
Continued support for a Triad office of the N.C. Biotechnology Center
$2.5 million for the furniture market in High Point
$3 million for the Civil Rights Museum
$50 million for the Millennial Campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and N.C. A&T State University
A marketing initiative to promote the Yadkin Valley winemaking and grape-growing industry
A possible toll road from U.S. 52 north of Winston-Salem to N.C. 68 north of the Piedmont Triad International Airport
Funds for transportation needs, including the Northern Beltway and regional transit
Legislation to permit the Triad's twenty-two chambers form a demonstration project to provide health insurance to businesses with fewer than 100 employees
Hagan also writes:
This last item is one of great interest due to rising healthcare costs many small employers have been forced to stop providing health insurance to their workers. Nationwide, nearly half of small businesses are unable to provide healthcare coverage for their employees. Small businesses in North Carolina rate insurance costs as one of their biggest problems.
