Challenger for Bellamy-Small withdraws from race
Reginald Woodard, who filed last week to run against District 1 incumbent Dianne Bellamy-Small, has pulled out of the race.

I haven't been able to reach Woodard since I learned of his withdrawal, but I talked to him the day before he pulled out and he seemed confident in his campaign. The mortician and manager of the Woodard Funeral Home said he wanted the district to have a representative that was more in touch with constituents and dealt with "the real issues."
So with two weeks left in the filing period, there are 5 unopposed incumbents and nobody who has actually filed to run for mayor. Either there are a lot of lurkers waiting for the last minute or this is going to be a slow election season.
Here's the official roundup of people who have filed:
Mayor:
At-large (3 seats):
District 1:
District 2:
District 3:
District 4:
District 5:

Matt, I know your dealing with those who have actually filed, but any confirmation on Sandra Anderson's intention to run at-large?

Roch,
I've heard the same scuttlebutt, but she's not yet filed. I'm working on confirming her intentions.
I might take this opportunity to ask if you are interested in running again for mayor. Right now, nobody's official.
Matt

Okay, Matt, here is your exclusive: no.
I love the people of this city and I'm eager to contribute to Greensboro’s progress and harmony. I think at this time, I'm better suited to doing that through the endeavors in which I'm currently involved.

Sandra Anderson, speaking from her son's basketball tournament in Kentucky, says she's "considering" and "thinking about" an at-large run for council. But she'll be out there until this weekend, so she said she'll have more information sometime next week.

One of the calls I had to return when I got back today was from Sandra. She said she was trying to guage my intentions as a part of her decision. I spoke with her today from her hotel in Lexington between basketball games.
Perhaps her decision was spurred by your call Matt, but she informed me that she has decided to run despite what I may or may not do. She says she has her 'group together' and will file on Wednesday for an at-large seat.

Did king Skip Alston tell Mr Woodard not to run.

Tax payer,
Punctuation aside, I assume you are asking whether Skip Alston pressured Mr. Woodard to withdraw. I haven't talked to the former candidate since he withdrew, so I don't know.
What leads you to believe that a county commissioner would take it upon himself to clear the way for an incumbent city council candidate?

Dianne Belllamy Small had Skip Alstons backing in last election.

Matt,
I wouldn't assume anything one way or the other.
But even your post describes Woodard's change of mind/heart as abrupt and unexpected.
I do not put anything past Skip Alston, and I know that he likes to have as much power and control as humanly possible.
I don't know if you will be able to find out exactly why Woodard pulled out, but it might be interesting to try.
If Alston or others bullied Woodard into dropping out, then they may want to consider how closely such behavior resembles how white-male-racists-in-charge used to handle things.
And if that's the case, then "by any means necessary" needs to be dismissed as nothing more than the ultimate form of selling-out.
Sincerely,
Hardy
