Look for Parks-Wade hearing in mid-September

I got a return phone call late Friday afternoon from Larry Leake, the chairman of the state board of elections.

Leake is the guy responsible for deciding when the state board will hold a elections hearing in Greensboro that continues the Trudy Wade-John Parks dispute over out-of-precinct provisional ballots.

The results of the hearing could go a long way toward determining who will win the months-long legal and electoral battle for at-large Guilford County commissioner, though the case will likely go back the courts.

Leake said the hearing will occur in mid-September. We should get an exact date sometime this week.

Update: 8/17 - This just in from the state Board of Elections: The hearing will start at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Old County Courthouse in downtown Greensboro.

In case you missed it, here's what ran in Saturday's paper:

GREENSBORO - A state elections hearing that could determine whether Republican County Commissioner Trudy Wade keeps her seat will occur in mid-September, the chairman of the state elections board said Friday.

Larry Leake said he'll pick a date for the hearing next week. For the past two months, the chairman has been trying to work with board members and lawyers to pick a date that fit their schedules.

Now, Leake said, too much time has passed. A hearing date needs to be set.

"Summer's over," Leake said late Friday afternoon. "I'm going to schedule the hearing."

Wade and her Democratic challenger, John Parks, have been embroiled in a dispute over provisional ballots since fall.

After several court battles and a recount by the Guilford County Board of Elections, Parks was certified as the winner by 89 votes.

But the state board wasn't satisfied with how the Guilford board conducted the recount, so it decided to hold another hearing in Greensboro. The state board will try to determine if up to 376 local voters cast provisional ballots in the incorrect precinct, a practice declared illegal after the election.

The board could use written or oral testimony from voters to find what it's looking for.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST HARDWORKING TAXPAYERS

Speaking of discrimination against the hard-working Taxpayers who tries to
cast their vote for the benefit of their future, and to think their vote gets canceled by the following:
People that are allowed to vote that don't work, have never worked, and never plan on working that
lives on Taxpayers' monies called Welfare and Social Programs. These people have had all the
illegitimates, for over fifty (50) years, that are creating 'TERRORISM IN SCHOOLS AND ON
STREETS' for everyone!
LAWS MUST BE CHANGED "If you don't work, don't pay taxes, and live off Taxpayers' monies,
you should not be able to dictate to Taxpayers, by your vote, who are working their behinds off to
support you.
ANOTHER LAW - Public Office should be held ONLY by people who work or have worked for an
independent company and not ONE that “uses Taxpayers’ monies to support themselves and the
business!”
THIS IS AN ABOMINATION! WAKE UP AMERICA AND ASK THAT DEMOCRATS CASTING ILLEGAL VOTES, FOR THEIR BENEFITS AND PET PROJECTS, BE OSTRACIZED!

I was at the hearing yesterday but couldn't stay 'til the end. The suspense is killing me. Will you be running an update in tomorrow's paper?
