You want a tax increase?
If you my Sunday story, you know that Guilford County commissioners face the prospect of big tax increases to handle more debt.
Should the county make deep cuts to avoid the big tax hikes?
Or are they necessary as the county pays for more schools and, maybe, a new jail?

Given that Guilford County has lost so much of it’s tax base with the companies closing and the projected necessary tax increases at the state level I believe it is imperative that the Commissioner’s find ways to make deep cuts in current spending. A great beginning can be made in cutting high income upper level staffing positions. I could never understand why an assistant to …. needed an assistant, needed an assistant. The layers of unproductive administrators who just push paper around and hold up water coolers is overwhelming in departments if the Commissioners can get beyond providing jobs for friends of friends. Administrators also keeping hiring personnel because the more people who work under them looks good on their resumes. In short, a hard look needs to be taken of all departments for excessive staff and unproductive programs.

If the School Board would stop busing and start spending the dollars on education, there would be no need to raise taxes.
