4 years is way too long if the person turns out to be incompetant.

How about 3 years as a compromise and term limits while we're at it?

Hey folks, lets step back for a second. Politicians want a longer term as a basic form of job security. Voters want shorter terms as a form of power control. If City Council gets a 4 year term, then how about County Commissioners, and even State Reps?? Why not?

BECAUSE ITS WRONG, plain and simple!

In NC we have elections EVERY YEAR, so cost is NOT an issue because the BOE is going to operate an election if the city Council runs or not.

Given the recent political developments across our state, at all levels, and I am talking corruption and scandel here, it does not seem prudent to open the door to more foul conduct.
Lets keep the control we have.

Here is a better idea. Lets focus on programs to get more people to participate in the voting process.
