Not showing up

Poor attendance, oversight and record-keeping plagues several boards and commissions that make up the second tier of government in Greensboro, High Point and Guilford County.

Check out our story in today's paper for more.

Some local officials say they just need to enforce the rules for booting off members, while others suggest eliminating some boards.

We welcome your comments and suggestions on how to improve attendance.

Great article and info! Absolutely no sense in allowing this nonchalance (appointees and appointors) to continue at all. There are folks out there who would like to SERVE! A word to those involved in appointing and reappointing.... Just do what needs to be done. If your neighbor's, cousin's, brother aint cuttin it FIND SOMEONE WHO DOES. To those who accept but dont perform (for any reason)... RESIGN.

There are people willing and able to serve on these boards. People who will do this for the community and not for a resume filler. There are waiting lists for some! Just do it.
