A jail bond?
We outline some ways to pay for a $105 million jail in today's paper. We also discuss how other counties have handled this issue. (Click here for the story.)
One way to pay for it is through a bond referendum. Voters would basically be supporting a two-cent property-tax increase to build the jail.
Would you vote for it?

I don't know why they don't try asking for donations first. Get together will local busnisses and local news stations to accept donations that can only be used for the new jail. You may be suprised what some people would be willing to donote. Then maybe you can tax for the rest. I don't know why raising taxes is always the first option. This is our community. We know we need a new jail. Why don't you even give the option of public donating? Do it the same way the Eastern Guilford issue was handled. Maybe if we did for this all major things, our taxes could be left low.

I would support a bond referendum. We absolutely need a new jail, and it is for the entire community so we must all share in the cost. The certificates of participation will cost more in the long run, and a sales tax could hurt lower income people more.
