Got opinions about the city budget?

Well ... City Manager Mitchell Johnson presented his proposal for next year's budget to the city council last night. It included a 4-cent property tax hike and 5 percent higher fees for water and sewer.

Well, let's see:

This is the same organization that wanted to float a bond issue, a bond issue mind you !, for repairing / replacing roofs and A/C sytems in existing City Buildings. This is terrible planning and management. They have had the buildings for years and act surprised when the roof needs repairing and have not put any money away. Can you imagine taking out a separate mortgage to re-roof your house ???

This is the same organization that has know for 2-3 years that the Dam at Lake Townsend has need for MAJOR repair ( 50 MILLION !!!! ) but has not mentioned it to the citizens. Within the last year they asked us to vote to borrow money (bond issues ) for all kind of projects including a nanatorium ( overpriced swimming pool ) that few Greensboro citizens will use BUT they did NOT tell us about the Dam repair issue that they had knowledge of. Maybe the voters would not have voted for new funding for niceties if City Council and staff would have told them about a $50 million dam repair that no one had budgeted for !!!!! Unbelievable !!!!!!!

This is the same organization that raises FEES every year (water, sewer, permits, licenses ) and then brags that they don't often raise taxes. Well, they don't have to raise taxes if they are going to raise all the fees ! I would rather them raise taxes , then I could deduct the TAXES from income tax on my Federal and State returns.

Watch them carefully .
