Simkins PAC opposes recall law
This statement just came in from Steve Bowden, chairman of the George C. Simkins Jr. Memorial PAC, a group of African American civic leaders that can make or break campaigns.
"The position of the George C. Simkins Jr. Memorial PAC relative to the pending recall vote regarding City Councilwoman Dianne Bellamy-Small is that the law that permits this recall effort is flawed.
"We believe that a law that permits a small segment within a district to initiate a recall effort such as this is capricious and subject to abuse. This is true whether the effort is against a councilperson regardless of ethnicity.
"We believe there should be identifiable standards which should be the minimum that triggers a recall effort. For example, we believe, at a minimum, a person must have convicted a high crime, misdemeanor or malfeasance in office before being subjected to this process. Anything less opens the process to abuse against duly elected officials regardless of ethnicity."
The Simkins PAC, it should be noted, did not endorse Bellamy-Small in the 2005 election.

I totally agree with them. Let's let all the miscreants stay in office with no checks and balances by the people who elected them.
