Matt Brown's silence

This story today about Coliseum Director Matt Brown's seeming participation on the Kevin Green City Council campaign doesn't have Brown's voice in the story. He wouldn't answer questions from me yesterday. Here is an e-mail explanation from coliseum spokesman Andrew Brown:

"I have relayed your repeated interview requests to him … but he is still upset about the controversy (that he feels your story created) regarding the ACC Hall of Champions. He feels strongly that your coverage of that presentation to Council was very misleading, so he is hesitant to do any interviews with you at this time."

The background is here in the comments section and here.

I told Andrew that if Matt doesn't feel comfortable being interviewed by me, my editor could ask him questions. Or any of the other 20-some news reporters in the newsroom could fill in. We can work around me so we can find a way for Matt to answer these legitimate questions.

It also seems like we should be able to have a conversation over the phone. E-mail doesn't allow for much give and take in dialogue.

As a taxpayer, I don't give a rat's behind how upset Matt Brown is about anything. If he is spending city time on any type of politics, he should be called on the carpet, NOW! He may report to someone else, but he works for me and every other citizen and taxpayer of Greensboro. If he can't or won't do his job and follow the rules, then kick him to the curb!

If Matt Brown is going to run Kevin's election campaign, Kevin will be sitting with Diane Bellamy-Small come election night.

Who would care what Matt thinks about City Council canidates ? I would try to find a supporter with more personality and less ego. He is just a wanna be City employee.

When Gov't employees start refusing to talk to the press covering City affairs, it is time to get some new employees. Matt never really thought he was an employee anyway.

I feel and think, that, when anyone, who is being compensated by the taxpayers, and feel that he/she does not have to answer to the people, let alone, have a hissy fit over how a story came out, then, their superior officer should have a "employee evaluation", on that EMPLOYEE! I cannot believe that Matt Brown, the highest paid employee on the city payroll, would just shrugg his responsibility to the people of this city!Matt has a personal agenda that needs to be examined by all facets of this community. Besides, I didn't know he was related to "W", and I didn't know I lived in "Mattsboro."
Go get 'um guys! We need answers, too! Poor, Kevin, what will become of his campaign?
