The Walt Jones letter

This morning, I took a look at the letter from May 2006 that Walt Jones wrote about his dealings with City Attorney Linda Miles. Jones was unable to give me a copy of the letter, saying it was no longer in his possession. The Troublemaker has the letter on his blog, however, and Jones confirmed that what is posted accurately reflects what he wrote.

Neither Jones nor Miles would comment on the letter when I called them Monday.

Jones is no longer in private practice and is an assistant DA in High Point. Because of that, he said he wasn’t in a position to elaborate on the letter’s contents or explain why he wrote it.

Water restrictions, here and elsewhere

At least 3.2 million North Carolinians are under mandatory water restrictions.

It seems like just yesterday that Lake Townsend was only four feet below full.

Update: This just in from City Hall.

City / County Water Conservation Billboard Campaign Launches Monday, October 15

The City of Greensboro, in collaboration with Guilford County, will unveil their water conservation billboard campaign aimed at inspiring city and county residents to conserve water as the extreme drought continues. The campaign, called “Conserve water now,” utilizes four different ads at 10 different locations around the City. In addition to the billboards, the new campaign is comprised of a print, online, and television advertising campaign; in-elevator advertising; grassroots advertising; and an online portal which provides water conservation tips. For more information on the “Conserve water now” campaign, visit www.greensboro-nc.gov/conserve.

County puts more docs online

From today's print version:

Followers of the Guilford County commissioners have long been able to retrieve meeting agendas online, but if you wanted supporting documents, you'd have to get them elsewhere.

That's changing. The county has put much of the supporting information for Thursday's commissioners meeting on the Internet. You can actually see, for example, proposed changes to planning fees, whereas before you'd only see the barebones item on the agenda.

All this information is public and available to anyone who asks for it, but the county clerk's office is trying to get more information off paper and on the Web.

"Eventually, the hope would be that the public would be able to see everything the elected official sees," said Effie Varitimidis, clerk to the board of commissioners.

Check out the agenda and supporting documents at http://www.co.guilford.nc.us/commissioners/granicus.
