A more detailed request for the memo

I just made a new public records request to City Hall today. Here is the text of my e-mail, which I sent to Chief Deputy City Attorney Becky Jo Peterson-Buie and members of the communications staff (and cc'd to Mitchell Johnson) a few minutes ago:

****************************
I'd like to request the following information:

A memo or document, dated Jan. 10, 2006, written to Tom Fox by Scott Sanders. The subject matter of the memo/document has been described to me thusly: Summary of investigation of Shawn Coward alleging a sexual assault by an unknown Greensboro police officer (or words to that effect).

However, I have not seen the wording and therefore cannot describe it in exact detail. Therefore, I would request any and all memos dated Jan. 10, 2006, that pertain to Shawn Coward, generated by any employee of the City of Greensboro.

As always, the News & Record is willing to pay a reasonable fee for copies of these documents.

Thanks for your swift attention to this request.

You should have had this memo ready for pickup within 2 hours of making the request. Unless of course they don't know what memo you are referring to.

Quick, call the lawyers first. I seem to recall Mitch said he would release said memo this week. Why not NOW?

What about the CAD reports? Any luck there?

Correction: Mitch said he would release the black book memo this week, not the one you are referring to.

Sparky, I created a new post with information about the town meeting.

Hope that helps.

Margaret,

As your Valentine Ben Holder pointed out, Chief Bellamy was reported to have said that he could not find any evidence of an assault that would have justified the line-up book. Have you looked into that?

Roch: No, I haven't. But a lot of things have come up during the past few days that I haven't had time to look at yet.

But I will. Promise.

Gee whiz, Ms. Banks. Why don't you just get yourself a cubicle on the second floor of the MMOB? Hell, just ask for a secure network user account so you can snoop around and collect all sorts of scuttlebutt on public employees. Might make your job a little easier.

Margaret Banks said:

Mary Memo:

I agree with you 100 percent, if by "snoop" you mean ask legitimate questions on behalf of taxpayers. And by "scuttlebutt" you mean monitor how public money is being spent.

Do you have any advice on how I might get a secure network user account? I'm all about making it easier for citizens to get access to their government.

Mary Memo said:

I realize that you're doing God's work, Ms. Banks, but I doubt that you'd find anything worthy of a Pulitzer. You'd probably run across a few memos admonishing staff to use both sides of copy paper. That's blog worthy.
