Guilford County Manager Names Interim Planning Director

 

Today, Guilford County Manager David McNeill named Nancy Roy, AICP, as interim Planning and Development Director for Guilford County beginning June 16. Roy, who is not a candidate for the position, will temporarily lead the Planning and Development Department following the untimely death of Planning Director Greg Niles on May 31.

 

Roy served five years as Planning Director for Moore County and retired as Planning Director of Cumberland County. She is currently the Chairman of the Moore County Planning Board. Her planning career spans 21 years in state and local government, including work with the NC Department of Commerce and Mid-Carolina Council of Governments. She attained certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners.

 

“I am extremely grateful to Ms. Roy for her willingness to provide interim oversight of Guilford County’s Planning and Development Department,” said McNeill. “Her service over the next several months will enable Guilford County to begin the search for a permanent Planning Director.”

 

Roy earned a Bachelor of Science from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee and a Master of Public Administration from NC State University. She also graduated from a number of courses at the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill. In addition, Roy has taught as an adjunct professor at Methodist University in Fayetteville.

 

“I offer my condolences to Guilford County on the loss of such a great employee, and to the planning community, county officials and the folks who knew and respected Greg so much,” said Roy. “I look forward to helping in any way I can during the transition period.”
