ACC title game
Unless Frances returns for an encore, or Ivan arrives early, we're set to see the first playing of the ACC title game when Florida State and Miami square off tonight. For the past 15 years or so, this game has almost always been huge, with national title implications.
But here in the heart of the ACC, I'm wondering what this game means for fans. Does this feel like a big conference game to you, the way a Duke-Maryland (or this year, a UNC-Wake) game would in basketball?
I'm not sure how I feel ...
I know Miami's in the conference, but it's still hard for me to connect them with the other nine teams that I've grown accustomed to following over the years.
Then again, maybe that's what this game will accomplish.

A couple of factors influence my ho-hum feeling about this game.
One, I can't get my brain around Miami being an ACC team. I think it'll take a couple of years before I view the Hurricanes as being on the same level as the rest of the ACC teams.
Two, it's hard for any early-season matchup to feel like a big game. There's too much football to play, too much potential for upsets and no guarantee that these teams' top-10 rankings are secure for the duration.

I agree, it's very hard to think of this game as a big conference matchup. But it still doesn't take away from the fact this is one heck of an early season matchup. Both teams will be in the title hunt come November, and the winner of this game could be the one that gets the BCS nod. Of course, all the attention on FSU and Miami has let people forget about the other contenter in the state of Florida...The mighty Gators!
