Mr. Holland's ECU Opus
Terry Holland seems to have made another bizarre career choice, as he's reportedly about to be introduced as East Carolina's new athletics director. Not long ago, he was an AD of an ACC school with a much larger budget. I realize he was unfulfilled as a fundraiser for UVa's basketball-arena project. But ECU seems a strange career move, at least to me.
Am I right? Can he help make ECU more than a baseball school -- the billboard outside my window reminds me that's what the Pirates think of themselves -- and do anything that would successfully revive the football program? (Chances are, he won't land Al Groh for this job.) Or is this more about being close to his Clinton home and maybe a beach house as retirement approaches?

Who are you, and what are you talking about? Holland likes a challenge and he's found one. A pretty well paying challenge at that. I know the world is a better place having had the benefit of your insight on this issue. Why not use your tremendous intellect on larger issues (Iraq, the Palestinian problem, or UNC's defense)? Do I detect/detest a little envy? You wear green well my friend, you wear it well.

It might take a few years, but mark my words my friend : ECU will be back on TOP as far as the NC & SC football schools go and you can take that one to the bank.
Terry Holland is up for the challenge and will make great things happen at ECU - just as they have in the past, they will in the future. I am sorry you are so envious of our new hire.
