Why Braves? Why?
Look, I've convinced myself that 1995 was enough. I've learned to take satisfaction in division titles, even though the wild card has really rendered it meaningless. I'm trying, really trying hard not to get upset when the Braves flame out each postseason. I was all set to concede this series to the Astros, who were clearly the superior team (although not a division champ. Big deal).
Then Furcal hits that home run and now I'm seeing possibilities again. Hey, I'll take my chances against this Brandon Backe guy. Then it's a shot at Clemens on three days rest, so maybe he's vulnerable, right?
But then sanity returns ...
The Braves - Furcal aside - have been totally devoid of clutch hitting (suprise!), going 3-for-20 with runners in scoring position and leaving 22 - 22! - runners on base in the first two games.
And Bobby Cox? Don't even get me started. But remember this, Grady Little was a Cox protege. Okay, I can't resist. That squeeze bunt with Giles up, Furcal on third and just one out? Or leaving Smoltz in to hit for himself in the ninth (never mind that Smoltz got a hit)? It's amazing how a guy who can do so much with a team in the regular season suddenly morphs into baseball's version of Rick Adleman in the playoffs.
So I leave you gentle reader with two questions. One, will the Braves win the series against Houston. Two, is Bobby Cox a liability for the Braves during the playoffs?

Jim, I'm glad to see reality is sinking in for you on Cox. I guess you've got to at least admire his refuse-to-lose attitude, what with his protesting the game over the dugout-to-bullpen phone delay. Or was that a sign of a manager melting down? I'm not sure.
