Crime and punishment
OK. Let's hear it. Were you surprised by the extent of the punishment rendered to the playing antagonists in Friday's Pacers-Pistons brawl? I was pleasantly surprised, frankly. I figured all three miscreants would be allowed back just in time for the teams' Christmas Day game. Now it will be interesting to see how well the union fights off the year-long suspension of Ron Artest. The union, if you recall, managed to turn Latrell Sprewell into a sympathetic figure and P.J. Carlesimo into the bad guy several years back.

I too was pleasantly surprised at the supensions however I think that O'neal and Jackson should have been suspended for the rest of the year also. I was also wondering why no one wants report on the first guy that Artest went after. This guy was holding a drink in his hand and from the angle could have no way been involved in throwing the beverage at Artest. I think Artest went after him because he was small and more importantly he was white. He didn't have the guts to defend himself from Ben Wallace so he picked out a helpless little white guy. Just imagine the protests if a white guy ran into the stands and beat up a small black guy.Same ol dirty double standard to me.

I was shocked and pleased with the suspensions, too. I do hope the NBA and Palace officials review the tapes carefully to identify as many of the fans involved as possible. Those fans should be taken to court and barred from entering another NBA game for the rest of their lives.
