Theme songs

Pregame music at college basketball games can run the gamut from alt-country to hip-hop. But there's a problem: Very few programs have adopted theme songs as their signature musical accompaniment when they run out onto the floor for pregame warmups. There ought to be law: Everybody gets a song. The musical genre doesn't really matter; it just ought to be something with discernible lyrics that can be linked to the school, mascot or something. "Devil With The Blue Dress On," has been associated with Duke, and that's a start.

Here are a few other suggestions:
Georgia Tech: "Sting Me," by The Black Crowes. It's got the requisite insect reference, and the Crowes are from suburban Atlanta. Jammin' tune.
Florida State: "Revival," by The Reverend Horton Heat. Another upbeat, loud and fun song by the greatest unknown band in America. Plays nicely with the Seminoles' impending hoops resurgence.
N.C. State: "Hungry Wolf," by X. The band's front man is named John Doe. Kind of fitting for a program run by outwardly bland Herb Sendek.
Do you have any suggestions to add to the list?

"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor for Clemson? It's both catchy AND cheesy. I think "Devil went down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band would be a better tune for Duke, but maybe it's just because I like the song. Maybe they could play it on away games to Georgia Tech.

For some reason, George Thorogood's "If You Don't Start Drinkin', I'm Gonna Leave" just popped into my head.

Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" could be interesting for N.C. State, but I'm not sure how to arrange that for a pep band.

As a one-year member of Duke's band, I have to point out that the brilliance of director Neil Boumpani is best shown by the arrangement of the B-52's "Rock Lobster." I *think* that was an in-house job.

Kudos for your suggestion Rob.

One problem though: Would Wake Forest really want to claim ownership of "Deacon Blues" by Steely Dan? Great song, but with lyrics like these ...

"They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues"

... don't exactly give you a rah-rah feeling do they?
