the December lull
They tease us with tournaments in Maui and challenges against the best the Big Ten has to offer (Illinois and, well, Illinois), then they leave us in the lurch for most of December. ACC basketball is basically on hiatus for a while aside from two intraconference affairs this Sunday. Apparently, final exams are the lame excuse for this down time. That's fine for the student-athletes. But what about us, the viewers ... and sports writers?
The occasional game against a Liberty, a Toledo, a Loyola of Chicago or a Temple -- nice scare for the Deacs, eh? -- isn't going to hold our attention. So here are some alternative forms of entertainment while you wait for Tobacco Road's winter ritual to begin:
Watch 5-8 football teams battle it out for NFC playoff spots.
Watch the New Orleans Bowl and other meaningless pre-New Year's bowl games that make you wish desperately for playoffs in college football.
Keep score of second-term Bush cabinet changes.
Go see an NHL game. OK, not an option.
Watch an NBA game. OK, not much fun.
Go see the "Nutcracker." Again.
Do some holiday shopping.
On second thought, I think I'll pop a tape of that Loyola-UNC game in the VCR.

We at ACC Hoops blog feel your pain...but there are more than a dozen ACC games between now and Sunday, mostly tune-ups but some real ones, too, including State @ Washington and two conference matchups, UNC @ VA Tech and FSU @ Maryland.
We'd love to read more about the young season here, with the access you guys have it would be really interesting.
