USGA goes over the top?
No, I don't mean the course setup. I mean the media setup. Believe me, sports writers aren't used to country-club service when covering events. Nor do we deserve it, most would argue.
But at Pinehurst, we were treated to salmon for lunch today (pork barbecue yesterday to remind visitors we're in North Carolina, not Texas) and the finest portable bathrooms I've ever seen. Step into the trailer, and you'll see faux green marble, wood finishings, golf-related artwork and, yes, potpourri.
Most importantly, the mammoth media work tent is well air-conditioned.
By the way, who has Brandt Jobe in their U.S. Open office pools? Do you believe in miracles?

Dear Jeff,
Those few media members in this state that aren't at Pinehurst really appreciate your descriptions of the succulent meals you're having. Keep up the good work.
As for my office pool, I had Olin Browne. I just had a feeling after he posted that 59 in qualifying.
And finally, can you confirm for me whether Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia were both wearing white belts yesterday? If so, shouldn't that be grounds for disqualification. At the very least, both should be required to buy condos at Del Boca Vista II.

Jim, you ignorant sl--, I'm the N&R's restaurant critic, not fashion editor. You ought to know better. But, since you mention it, I did hear that Sergio switched into some lovely cabana wear after his round today. He's been at the pool, and he was all over that shuffleboard court.
