Finally, a starting QB at FSU

Five days before Florida State's season-opener against Miami, Bobby Bowden has finally named his starting quarterback, though he says he's been leaning toward Drew Weatherford, over Xavier Lee, for a while. Of course, when Wyatt Sexton was diagnosed with Lyme disease, it threw the position into a bit of disarray. Now, Bowden suggests Lee might be his closer ... or have a chance to win the starting job as the season goes on.

FSU hasn't had a consistent performer at QB in several years. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. I suspect it will go a long way toward deciding whether the Seminoles are playing for an ACC title in Jacksonville in early December.

In the meantime, N.C. A&T still hasn't decided on its starting quarterback for the Aggie-Eagle Classic, which, like the Miami-FSU game, will be played on Labor Day. Read Rob Daniels' story on that situation tomorrow in the News & Record.

Katrina and FSU football
As of last week I was a ardent FSU supporter, today I am extremely disappointed in the path the university has taken over the past decade, as in football. I was ready and willing to stand and fight for the Seminoles name, because of some stupid political correctness. But! the situation with Katrina and the handling of the misadventures of it's football players has raised my ire.
The joke that the tomahawks on helmets will be replaced with hand cuffs, is in reality a sad but true joke. When only money/winning, not ethics, morals and education are the standard, not one real thinking parent should send their child to FSU!
When a game FSU/Miami is more important, so as to displace people from hotels and motels, fleeing the tragedy of Katrina, FSU should hang their heads in shame. I shared some games at Doak Campbell in the roaring days of 90's FSU football, I shared the great coaching of Bobby Bowen - But! no great coach should allow the power of boosters to overrule ethics and the lessons of life. If the message they send to their students is winning/money are more important, the standard ( moral relativism ) by which we now seem to live, is the real tragedy.
Today while reading St. Pete Times sports, I purposely pasted over the FSU article to read how the Gators and their new coach were doing, am I the only one with this thought pattern, please tell me I'm wrong?

I'm going to have to look into this and maybe start this as a new thread: If rich FSU boosters were bumping Katrina refugees out of Tallahassee hotel rooms so they could stay over after tonight's big game, then this could be the most public yet of FSU's many humiliations, as noted attorney Jackie Chiles might say.

I have a brother who's an FSU alum and just moved back to Tallahassee. I'll see if this sad state of affairs dampens his enthusiasm after the big win over Miami. I fear it won't.
