Cocka-doodle-doo!

Yes, count me squarely among those who is oh so happy to have Steve Spurrier back in the college game.

Why? Two reasons.

One - I'm a native South Carolinian and a life-long fan of the Gamecocks. Beating Tennessee and Florida in the same year? That's good enough for sanctification in my book.

Two - As a journalist, I'm always fond of a guy who can give a good quote. And as Spurrier showed after Saturday's win, he's still at the top of his game. Check out this little grenade he tossed over to former arch-nemesis Bobby Bowden and the Seminoles.

"They've got three losses and they're still in the [ACC title] game?" Spurrier asked. "Guess they picked the right division to be in this year."

For more good stuff on Spurrier - and even if you hate him, you still have to read about him, don't you? - check out Stewart Mandel's weekend rewind for SI.com.

Here's why I've always sided with Bowden in the FSU vs. Spurrier wars: A) Bowden is 8-5-1 against Florida when Steve Superior was coach there. I'll take a win over a good sarcastic crack any day. B) Bowden never allowed himself to really lose it and get sucked into the sniping wars. No driving to Gainesville to sneak in a Jerk-Store joke.

Here's what Bobby Bowden had to say this week as his son Tommy prepares to spoil Spurrier's first season in Columbia:

"Steve kids. He kidded us a lot. And I thought it was funny. I kidded him a lot, too, but it wasn't funny coming from me."

Hey, self-deprecation can be pretty funny, too.

Oh, and as for Spurrier's latest rip, keep in mind Bobby went on record before the season that he didn't think a three- or four-loss team should have a shot at an ACC title. He repeated that opinion Wednesday, saying he'd feel a lot better about being division champs at 11-0.

Cockle-doodle-don't: Looks like Spurrier's genius still has a mental block when it comes to coaching against Bowdens. Not to mention any and all NFL coaches.

Hey it could have been worse. It could have been 63-17 and every Clemson fan there rushing the field after the game.

That's a funny quote. He does come up with some witty, off the cuff, jabs for sure.
Funnier still is the fact that if Kentucky had beaten UGA, USC East could have been in the SEC title game with 4 losses. (I know, not division losses, but still humorous)

It's even better considering Bowdens own Spurrier. It must keep him up at night.
