Not that we'd condone this sort of thing ...
... at least not in the Sports Department. But a nameless copy editor in the news room sent me this link for a game in which you can re-enact Zidane's headbutt on Materazzi.
Speaking of Materazzi, he admits that he did insult Zidane - surprise! - but denies calling the French midfielder - who is of Algerian descent - a "terrorist."
Naturally, the mayor of Rome has also felt compelled to weigh in on the matter. Siiggggh.

Zidane claims Materazzi made some disparaging comments with respect to his Mother and Sister. Zidane, being the loyal son and brother that he is, unlike most Frenchmen, felt compelled, and rightfully so, to protest the indignities aimed at his loved ones.

Why of course, that's totally logical! Somebody drops a Yo Mama joke on Zidane and he knows that - even if it might cost his country the World Cup - he must stand up for family honor! Why didn't he just slap Materazzi across the face and challenge him to a dual?
The fact that this story is still absolutely dominating the media in Europe tells you a) just how important the World Cup is to them and b) just how far behind they are the United States when it comes to the art of trash talking. I mean, an insult to his mother and his sister and he loses it? Zidane wouldn't last five minutes in the NBA. Or the ACC for tha matter.
