Here and elsewhere ...

In case you missed today's paper, Dustin Long's story on the Shane Hmiel fine is here, and his roundup of various odds and ends is here.

Elsewhere, Winston's Mike Mulhern chats with Kyle Petty (reg. req.), who's coming off his first top 10 finish in nearly three years. And the N&O reports that actor Anthony "Dr. Green on E.R." Edwards will be the honorary grand marshal of Saturday's truck race at Martinsville. And thatsracin.com has the AP story on Kevin Harvick, who apparently can get along with his teammates. (For the record, it seems no one in NASCAR really gets along with Robby Gordon, which is why he has his own team. I'm not sure why everyone presumed Harvick would have better luck.)

Trent Cherry, one of Ryan Newman's crew members, blogs on his picks for most overrated drivers in NASCAR. (He goes with Jamie McMurray, Brian Vickers and Kasey Kahne.) Go check out the lively discussion, which devolved pretty quickly into Junior bashing.

Closer to home, Matt, one of the regular commenters here (okay, he's one of two regular commenters here) runs a racing message board here. Make his day and go check out his site.

John, make sure to have your friend Bruce Buchanan check this post out ----

The Guilford County School Board recently completed plans for a weekly schoolbus road racing series in High Point.

The city road course will be similar in size to the world famous LeMans layout in France and will include a staightway of over 4 miles in length (just like in LeMans, otherwise known as Hwy 68). Actually this straightaway is over 6 miles in length and includes elevation changes, but 2 chicanes will slow the participants down as they divert the race to Andrews and Central. It will be a grueling test of man and machine as several of the turns are actually off-camber. Then the buses will rocket back past Oak Hallow Mall, around Oak Hallow Lake and finally back to Southwest High School.

It is estimated that these endurance races will last approximately 3 - 4 hours each day with a break in the middle to allow the students to attend class.

Ha! That's really funny!

Hey, maybe in an effort to save money, GCS can get sponsorships for these buses. I can just hear some 10-year-old saying, "I'd like to thank Frosted Flakes, Goodyear and all the boys back at the shop for getting me to school today."

But let's just hope that GCS doesn't hire Robbie Gordon and Kevin Harvick as bus drivers.

Thanks for the help John. I hope everyone goes by to see it. My name is Coach Catfish on there. I've always wondered who the overrated and underrated drivers really are. To me, its like a Quarterback on a football team. The guy could be really great, but if you're on a crappy team, then it won't matter. That being said, a guy like Tom Brady who plays for the best team in the league with the best coaching and best system looks unbeatable. To me, it's all about how you get hooked up with and how well you mesh. NASCAR is the epitome of a team sport.
