Tonight's race at Daytona marks the start of the second half of the NASCAR season.
Any predictions? Other than that Jeff Gordon will win tonight and that NBC's coverage will be better than Fox's. Those are too easy.

I realise that traditionally, the Daytona 2nd visit has been halfway.
I guess I think of Dover ( race# 13) as being the halfway point of the season now. Daytona 2 now means ten to go before it starts all over again, the bumping proceedure begins in earnest now, as we watch the "mathematically eliminated" line grow.
After that, it's the "locked-in ten" or whoever is lucky enough to be within the magic 400 window.
It's a 26 / 10 season now.. Daytona 2's signifigance has changed a bit in the scope, as now some of the big teams get to scramble for reasons to give to their multi-million dollar sponsors as to why, and "Why?" is a hard question to answer.

John, I really think Busch will win tonight. He is due for his first plate win. Lest anyone forget, he was a strong second in the 500 and may have gotten around Gordon there going into 3. He is, I think, the most underappreciated plate racer in NASCAR. He consistently gets a top 5 when he isn't wrecked by someone.

You make a good point, Scotsman. But NASCAR's regular season is still 36 races long for all but 10 (or so) drivers, who can still win races and gain points although they're shut out of winning the top prize.
I'm still trying to wrap my assistant sports editor's brain (a small one, admittedly) over where the halfway point really is. Guess there's now two of them.
Matt: If Kurt Busch can avoid spinning himself out early in the race, I'd say you might should put some money on your guy.

Aye, Matt.. you'd had a great prediction in Kurt it seems had Riggs' spotter said something other than "Those two guys in front of you are gonna...oops, never mind"

Yeah, great choice - DW's Boogity, Boogity, Boogity or BP's qualifying analysis - Green, Green, NO!, Red, Red, No! Green, Green.
