Michigan
I'm slammed here at the ol' office -- the boss is out this week, and I'm in the middle of trying to figure out what stories will go in the next three days worth of papers and editing the ones I do have. (Yeah, racing's in the mix, though Dustin is off the track this weekend and enjoying his last little bit of freedom until he writes himself to death during the chase. That said, I'm open to suggestions.)
So what's on your mind for the weekend?
Can Tony Stewart make it six out of eight? (Speaking of Smoke, check out Ed Hinton's latest on him.)
Will the Roush cars gang up on the field and take four of the top five spots like they did last time at Michigan?
Who's going to climb back into the top 10 in points? Who's going to fall out of the top 10?
Or, if you want to see the future of NASCAR, check out the starting grid for tonight's ARCA race at Michigan: Kyle Krisiloff, a Hendrick development driver, is on the pole; Steve Wallace, Rusty's son, starts fifth; up-and-comer Chase Miller starts seventh; Jarit Johnson, Jimmie's little bro, goes off 16th; Jason Jarrett, Dale's son, is one spot back; and David Ragan, some people's pick to win the Roush gong show, starts 19th.
Remember that at the 2010 Daytona 500.
Okay, back to work. I want to see the comments up in the teens when I get back.
Good weekend!

John, supposedly Eric Darnell and David Ragan have won the Gong Show. This is yet to be confirmed, but it's what I'm hearing. Kenseth has been my pick for the weekend, based off his run earlier, and he dominated Chicago. If you need, I'll do the race preview for Sunday... heh.

And about ARCA... half those guys won't make it Cup. Krisiloff (Pissiloff) never finishes a race, he is the worst of the 3 guys that Hendrick hired last year, and that's saying a lot. Steve will win, because he is using the Penske team and RWI for this one. Jason Jarrett in in his mid-30's and has been an ARCA mainstay.

Actually, Matt, Jarrett doesn't turn 30 until October.
And if "Steve Wallace" was your prediction for tonight's race winner, well, you're right. Then again, the AP story we got on the race moved at 8:22 p.m. ;)
Wallace, btw, just turned 18 yesterday. Definitely in NASCAR's future, I'd say.
Interesting tip on Ragan and Darnell. What happens if they have two winners?

I don't get SPEED and hadn't bothered to look, but he has the best car and the best crew so I figured it was a shoe-in for him to win. I don't know what happens, unless they split the schedule in Trucks? Or Kluever may be moving to the 60 Busch car and the 50 would be available and a 3rd team is started. The way Craven is running, he might be replaced.

That would stink for Craven. A month ago, the rumor mill spit him out behind the wheel of Mark Martin's car. Sigh.

The story of the weekend...How can it be anything but Tony? Will he win #6? Will he take it all the way to Homestead and win the Cup? With this kind of winning streak in the offing, I doubt anybody will be able to peal themselves away from it. For my own two-cents, I'm hoping something truly dramatic occurs on Sunday. How about a win for one of the vets? Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, or truly something to see, Kenny Schrader. (I wasn't talking likelihoods, just dramatic). Actually anybody winning except Smoke would stir up the day. He's had his. Let's find something new to talk about.

S.D.: You almost got your wish. I was hoping like heck Tony Raines was going to pull it out there at the end. I would have settled for Martin, Wallace or Schrader, though.
