The Jimmie Johnson challenge

Said the driver of the No. 48 after Sunday's race (which someone, according to Dustin, dubbed the "Organ Donor 500"):

"It's real easy to sit on your couch and point fingers and say so-and-so did something wrong. But, until you're out there in these cars at these speeds and seeing all the near-misses and what is really going on, it's not worth forming an opinion."

Hmmm. I'll give it a shot.

Jimmie caused the first Big One on Sunday.

Boy, that wasn't nearly as hard as I thought.

P.S. Dale Jarrett had one amazing come-from-behind win on Sunday. Still not as good as this one, though.

Sorry I missed your quiz John. I was out of Internet contact while I was chaperoning 9th graders in D.C. last week.

DJ wasn't who I was thinking of when I said non-Chase drivers will get their share of wins, but I'll take it

Carrie said:

I love Jimmie but he should have just manned up. Not that it would have mattered because his excuse was much the same as Newman and I don't see Newman catching as much hell for it.

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Was Mears running first when Newman got into him on lap 66 and wanting to lead the lap for points?

John Newsom said:

I win!

Now moving on the Associated Press wire:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jimmie Johnson acknowledged Tuesday he was at fault for an eight-car crash Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway that scuttled at least one other driver's championship hopes.

...

After watching tape of the accident that occurred 20 laps into the race, Johnson said he realizes he ran into the back of leader Elliott Sadler to start the wreck. Johnson initially claimed he was pushed into Sadler by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

---

Sadly, there is no prize for winning. Dangit.

Carrie said:

Last time I checked, mrproduce, no one cares who got wrecked, they just care who did the wrecking. Now that JJ manned up, I'm sure the HMS haters will find something else to whine over.

John Newsom said:

*I* care a lot who gets wrecked. The first one took out Junior, Waltrip, Sadler and Mark Martin.

I almost clicked off my TV. Glad I stuck around to see the finish.

And Carrie -- what's up with the new AOL blog address? All I care about is that I have to change the links section ... ;)

Diecast Dude said:

Carrie has joined myself, the Scotsman, and CJ on AOL. Our plan for total world domination is well underway... bwa-hahahahaha...

John Newsom said:

I'd say the plan is working, even if thatsbloggin.com actually gets Kristen Voda to post.

For sure, you three are definitely a better team than the one AOL actually put out on the track.

Matt said:

Being a Henprick hater, I'm quite surprised Jimmie took the blame for something. First time in 3 years he has ever done that.

CJ said:

Awe John, we're tons better than the AOL track team...we got Dude.

*chuckle*

Carrie said:

Bitter, Matt?

John, I decided to join the cool kids! Besides, AOL makes it easier to weed out the as-- er, jerks.

Carrie said:

Oh John, btw, I cared about my top three being taken out, too. I just meant that no one seemed to be mentioning that so much as cursing Jimmie.

At any rate, I'll follow Mark Martin's lead and be angry at the race, the track and NASCAR for running the stupid race before I'll be angry at anyone that happened to be the catalyst for a wreck there.

In any other race besides Dega & Daytona, the drivers get yelled at for even breathing on one another in the wrong way. At 'Dega & Daytona, they are encouraged to knock the hell out of one another.

Ironic, huh?

Matt said:

I'm not bitter at all, my boy Busch beat Johnson last year and Kenseth did the year before.

Antonette said:

::sigh:: Geez I miss Dale Sr. And I miss that era. So much has changed and I'm not sure it was for the better with exception to safety barriers and equipment. I appreciate your post, and the Dale Earnhardt article.

Carrie said:

Fair enough, Matt. I guess two straight Roush championships isn't enough to take the edge off the whole NASCAR favors HMS but hates Roush idea.

John Newsom said:

And here I am thinking NASCAR just hated Kevin Harvick.

NASCAR needs its conspiracy theories because it gives fans something to talk about on the days there's no racing.

Antonette: Thanks for the kind words. Dustin did a heck of a job on that Earnhardt Sr. piece, and I'm not saying that just because I had the pleasure of editing it.

Mark said:

I hope the Harvick haters haven't located where his new house in being built in Stokesdale. I understand from the window & door salesman that it has over hundred thousand $$'s in just windows.

John Newsom said:

*lightbulb goes on*

I think I know where that house is, or could figure it out very quickly. An N&R employee (someone much higher up the food chain than me) was asking me about that house a while back -- said a NASCAR somebody was building it, but he didn't know who. He described the place as huge.

I also hear the yard has been cleared of all rocks. You know, those who live in glass houses ...

Carrie said:

NASCAR hates Robby Gordon, too. But then again, most everyone does at one time or another. *sigh*

mrproduce said:

I care who got wrecked Carrie, as well as a lot of other folks. You avoided the question so I have to figure the answer was no. Given that it would seem that the greedy little Jeff Gordon clone wanted the 5 points so bad for leading a lap that he didn't give a hoot and a hollar who he wrecked as long as he got his. Shame he had to take out a great guy like Mark Martin in his haste.
Just another reason to fix a broken system and scrape the chase.

Chuck said:

Harvick Mansion of Doom!!! The house is over 15000 sq ft and he is planning on building a Vineyard to be just like Childress. Not to mention the acreage he just bought for a runway. He is already banned from multiple resturants in Oakridge bc he is so "nice".

John Newsom said:

Since when did Oak Ridge get restaurants? I'm not sure the C-stores along 68 count.
