Down to three
In the race for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte, Daytona Beach and Atlanta stay in, and Richmond and Kansas City drop out.
(Story here.)
Which makese sense, geographically speaking. NASCAR started in Daytona. Nearly all of the drivers live and work in Charlotte. And Atlanta is kinda sorta halfway between.
Richmond? I never thought my hometown had a serious shot, mostly because it's not Charlotte.
And Kansas City? It was always a long shot despite the conspiracy theories.

Clearly the front-runners here are Charlotte and Daytona, and I'm willing to bet that, in this one case, the Frances are going to help out their old buddy Bruton Smith by giving Charlotte this crown jewel to augment Lowes Motor Speedway.
Of course, there's also the possibility that the Frances are making it appear that the choice could be a spot other than Daytona in an effort to get the local government there to put up millions of dollars for the HOF to prevent it from being awarded to Charlotte.

I'm rooting for Charlotte for the simple fact that it's close and I might actually get to go visit it.
The flip side is that a HOF in Charlotte will give it one more thing to brag about.
Meanwhile, did I mention that that Greensboro is getting an indoor football team? No, not Arena Football. National Indoor Football League.
Sigh.
