Indy Rock City
NASCAR groupies include LeAnn Rimes, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, that guy from Creed and some of the folks who will be performing here later this month. NASCAR has enough juice to get the strangly popular Jay Leno to drive the pace car at Daytona. (Try not to drool when you check out the car.)
These aren't A-list folks, but it's not Hollywood Squares territory either.
The IRL? It can claim the much cooler David Letterman ... and Gene Simmon, who the racing series has built a marketing campaign around.
The ESPN story notes wryly: The IRL is trying to increase its fan base.
A confession: Kiss was The Band when I was in middle school. A lot of my friends loved them, but I never got them. And time has not been good to their songs.

The most "interesting" part of the press announcement noting the Simmons connection was the note asking that editors not to use photos of Simmons in his KISS make-up.
It's also interesting who the second half of second the Simmons Abramson Marketing group is.
Abramson's only claim to fame is producing the Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens sit-com.
That's some company the IRL has chosen to associate their selves with. Is there any doubt they have reached the desparation point watching the CCWS make gains into open wheel racing in the US.

What's the point of taking Gene Simmons out of his makeup? I mean, I appreciate his wanting to put KISS in his past. But that's the only reason he's famous now.
Speaking of IRL, anyone catch the picture of Danica Patrick hanging out with Rusty Wallace? Seems they're going to be Rolex24 teammates.
It's hard to think of an odder racing couple than that one.

We all saw an odder racing couple the last year and half ---- Rusty & Ryan

I saw the Rusty and Danika pic on a feed right next to the picture of Danika in her perty undies next to the car. Great combo.
IRL and Gene Simmons? I always assosiated IRL with class not crass.
I saw KISS when I was a junior in HS. Portland OR. First Tour. My pals all wanted to see them as they were the next hot band. I didn't get it either. **lol** That was the day I decided Dead Heads weren't freaky at all.
