Distracted
Maybe you heard there's a basketball tournament in town?
That's where my head is at today. My body, sadly, is still locked deep inside N&R headquarters. The boss gets to go to the Coliseum. Me? I'm responsible for everything that's not ACC hoops.
Which means I'm trying to decide if we should run the AP story about Michel Jourdain Jr.. Because Dustin is en route to Vegas, I'm leaning toward "yes."
In the meantime, go read some of the other racing bloggers on the righthand side of this page.

John as long as you are minding the store take a look at the Women's Big South Tournement scores. For the last couple of days its lists Liberty as the winner of their game on Tuesday night, but they are not shown as playing tonight in the semi-finals, the N&R has the team who lost playing.
As an HP College alum (I'm that old, I don't say University), I recognize other conferences in the area. That's a beef of mine for next basketball season, the N&R covers UNCG and A&T, but neglects covering the other Div 1 school in Guilford County. I don't count the wire report as coverage, send a reporter. Any by the way HPU is closer to the N&R building than Elon and I believe a reporter winds up at Elon occasionally.
And you thought I would just complain about the School Board.

I'm making voodoo dolls of my cable company since the CBS affilliate has no picture.

Given how I'm a Cal fan, I usually don't have to pay attention to post-season play for long... sigh...

Mark: We finally caught that one today. Putting together complete and accurate basketball standings is harder than it looks. Some nights we have it down, some nights we don't.
re. HPU - Don't expect anything more than what we're doing now. Our Wake and Duke men's hoops beat writers already double up on UNCG and A&T respectively, and any stringers we have available will go to the G, A&T or high schools. In other words, we're covering what we can get to and using releases or the wires to fill in the rest. It's not ideal, but it's the best we can do with the staff that we have.
Elon gets covered usually only when it plays UNCG or A&T. They get the same bare-bones treatment for most of their home games and all of their road games.
As for the school board, sorry, never heard of them. ;)

John, I would really like to see HPU covered and not have any of the HP beat writers talk about the latest Hams that opened at the Palladium or the new Brewsters, but I'll let it go.
And if A&T was in High Point you and I both know that the politically correct N&R would find a way to get a writer to every home game.

If you're saying we'd cover a High Point version of N.C. A&T because it's a large public university with a football team that fills a stadium, draws 25K+ fans to its homecoming game and fields a terrible men's basketball team that still averaged 4,000 fans per home game this season, I'd say you might be right.

Why would the N&R mobilize its staff to cover teams with such high failure rates? I will give you that "News Events" are more likely to break out during a sporting event at A&T so the coverage is probably justified. No bias in that statement, just fact, I've lived in the area 30+ years.
