In his words: Carl Edwards
If you missed Dustin's story today on Carl Edwards, you deprived yourself of a real treat.
I'll tell you why after the jump ...
This is the third year he has done the "In His Words" feature, a sort of stream-of-consciousness riff on whatever's on the driver's mind. Dustin works off of a script of questions - part of the fun of editing these pieces is figuring out what exactly Dustin asked. It runs during Martinsville week in the Greensboro and Roanoke papers; Norfolk picks it up before the Richmond race. Dustin says he gets more response (all favorable) than anything else he does during the year.
My favorite piece of the Edwards interview:
I wish I could sing. I can’t sing at all. I’m terrible. I like playing the guitar a little bit, but I kind of stopped playing because my singing was so bad. I mean, seriously, it’s that bad. My mom told me to just quit singing one day. She said, “Look, it’s really bothering me.” That’s how bad it is.
When your mom says you stink, you stink.
Tim Rickard, one of our staff artists and a syndicated cartoonist, did the illustration honors once again.
Along with the Speed Weeks, the night races at Richmond and Bristol and the season-ending race at Homestead, "In His Words" week is one of my favorite times on the racin' calendar.

Dang it. Carl's doing it again. Someone make him stop! I don't wanna like him. ;-)

Sorry, Carrie. Can't help you there. There are still four other Roush drivers to dislike, if that helps.
