Stat-o-matic

I dig numbers. I really dig numbers.

Spreadsheets? Love them.

My favorite racing site: This one.

I'll explain why after the jump. ...

Want a list of every race Jeff Gordon has one? All 73 of them are here. Check out David Pearson's career stats. Did you know that Kyle Petty's last win was in 1995 at Dover? It took me 30 seconds to find the results. If you click around a bit, you'll find that the guy who owned Kyle's car (no, not Richard) has won only once since. That race, and the driver (not Kyle) is here.

You can blow a good chunk of your day digging through this stuff. So consider yourself warned.

I stumbled on this site late last year, and I'm using it all of the time now. NASCAR.com used to have some similar stuff, too, but it was harder to use and there were some gaps in its database. I say "used to" because it appears that NASCAR.com has nuked a bunch of its old stuff. Probably the most useful thing it had was a position tracker - race by race over the course of a season, you could see where a driver is in the standings. Now that's gone.

If you want to know Matt Kenseth's birthday, NASCAR.com's your site. Anything more serious? You might want to give racing reference a look.

I forget what I was looking for but I was going batstuff trying to find an old stat on NASCAR.com the other night. If I had only had this site! Thanks for linking to it, John. Def. going in my bookmarks.

The funny thing is, NASCAR.com used to have a nice feature that showed where a driver ranked in points as a season went on. In its attempt to make the driver pages look prettier (which they do), they've apparently nuked that feature.

Racing-reference.com doesn't have it either, but at least there's the raw material to let you piece it together.

Oh -- and just wait till I post the new NASCAR stats tomorrow, Carrie. They'll blow your mind.

I'm a data geek too, man. Sad thing is, my life at work revolves around spreadsheets, databases, and code - you'd think I'd find something else to occupy my time at home. Nope. Gimme gimme gimme numbers. I could get lost for days in that site!

Now I know why your site looks so good.
