Have you seen me?

Not me. Him.

Jeremy Mayfield is 13 starts shy of 400 for his Cup career. He has five wins in 12 mostly full-time seasons. (He has run more races than not since 1994.)

He made the chase both years. This season, however, his best finish was 16th at Bristol. Next best was 22nd at Fontana. He's 33rd in points and already outside of the chase window. (He's 513 points behind Jimmie Johnson.)

Anyone know what's up in the 19 camp? I don't think anyone would put Mayfield up there with Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon on the list of talented drivers. But Mayfield isn't 33rd-in-points-with-a-rock-awful, either.

So what's going on?

5 wins in 12 years says it all. He will be looking for a new ride for 2007, if not before the end of '06.

And I doubt if it will be with any of the mulit-car teams unless it's a Harvick/Mayfield combo for Red Bull.

Well, Mayfield *does* have experience with a startup. Maybe that'll work in his favor when Toyota/Red Bull starts hiring.

Scott Riggs is ahead of him, and he missed Daytona.

This comment isn't directly related to this post. I apologize for that. But, no racing blogs seem to be discussing this, and it's potentially very important.

Do you think there is any truth to the rumor about Dateline NBC's plan to set up NASCAR fans on 4/8/2006? Some extremely popular blogs are discussing an alleged plan to place hidden cameras on Muslims and send them to a NASCAR event and, as the story goes, catch fans being bigots.

It's all over the web:

Don: Who knows? I read over Michelle Malkin's post - it seems possible.

Get a racecar fan all liquored up and he'll be whatever is politically incorrect in our society, especially during a race. A while back I saw a TV interview of some inebriated NASCAR fans about their view of Blacks racing in the circuit and fortunately the N word was edited out.

How are these illiterates gonna know the guy is a Muslim? Is there a Muslim seating section at the races outfitted with prayer rugs for them to pray toward Mecca? Will the person(s) have a sign on his/her back proclaiming they're a Muslim? Of course, I got it solved, the person(s) will show up in Muslim type garbs and during cautions will read their Korans.

Isn't Michele Malkin a muslim? Hell it might be her attending the event and in that case the good old boys will pray that more Muslim's show up at future races.

Mayfield is toast this year and will be replaced by mid season. His one victory last year was a fluke and pure luck.
