A note to the Junior hat8rs

Shut it. I mean it.

OK, OK, I know, this is Junior's first trip to victory lane since Chicagoland 27 races ago, and one good Saturday night hardly means he'll win five or six more this season. He's definitely not quote-unquote back in the 2004 sense when he was a threat to win every time he raced. But it looks like he's over 2005. That's good news for the 8 team.

Coming up, Junior usually does well at Darlington. He was awful last year at Charlotte, a track he tore up in 2004. There's his real test.

He's still not as good right now as Tony Stewart. You barely saw Stewart all night, but he came across the line in sixth. He's now second in points, just 55 points behind Jimmie Johnson. Here, kitty kitty kitty ...

Does well?

With an Average start of 15th and average finish of 16th and only one top five!

If you say so, I'd call it average. The recent DEI engine explosions (Dale's and Robby's) are weighing heavy right about now.

Marc - Are you referring to Darlington? By my count, I see 5 top 11 finishes in the top 7 races. Junior - a notoriously poor qualifier in recent years - has started second (spring 04) and third (fall 04).

Most drivers would be happy with an average 15th-place finish. Average 2006 season finishes through Talladega: Johnson 6.9, Kenseth 7.7, Stewart 10.2, Martin 11.4, Kahne 12.3, J. Gordon 13.1, Earnhardt 14.4, Harvick 14.6. There's most of your top 10 right there.

Like I said, no h8ting for just one day. ;)

And back on Planet Reality, yeah, Marc, the engine failure was uncharacteristic and concerning. I'll spin it away by saying maybe someone at the engine shop is pushing the proverbial envelope. One engine builder's reliability is another engine builder's lack of power.
