Now I get it
When Kyle Busch kep running into Casey Mears, it wasn't because Busch was mad at Mears.
Oh, no. It was Busch's way of saying hi to a new teammate - you know, like a fraternity initiation.
I still can't believe how Mears has become the Hottest Thing in NASCAR just because he finished second in this year's Daytona 500. Really: Is there anything on Mears' NASCAR resume that suggests he's a star in the making?
The biggest loser in all of this, meanwhile, could be Chip Ganassi, who a year ago rolled out Sterling Marlin, Jamie McMurray and Mears. Next season, he's faced with the prospect of David Stremme, Reed Sorenson and some guy now running fifth in some regional midget-car series.
Which, if these standings hold up, Michael Sboro of Watertown, N.Y., will be driving the Texaco car in 2007.
Eh. Could be worse.
Maybe David Smith will have some clues.

Why settle for a guy in 5th place in a regional series when you could have the guy who is 2nd place in the National Modified Standings???
Well who I'm talking about is a little on the old side for the new NASCAR, and tends to win in whatever car he happens be strapped into at the time.
If memory serves me right my guy won a modifed race, a Busch North race and qualified for a Cup race all in under 6 hours last fall.

OK, I read David Smith's list, makes me wonder what has happened to Ryan Moore, who is posted on the list but hasn't really done any racing for DEI like I thought the plan was.
And John if your critieria is selecting someone who is in fifth place in a series, the guy who is 5th place in the National Modified standings is none too shabby either. I guess what would rule him out is that he races against his son now.
