Ms. Hamlin, leadfoot
From Denny Hamlin's teleconference yesterday via Dustin Long's blog:
"I guess maybe you could say driving ability from my mom. She is wide open on the highway. I mean, she is on the gas or on the brake constantly. It almost makes me seasick she drives so fast sometimes."
Zing!
Since we're on the topic of Hamlin, I've got some more Hamlin trivia after the jump.
Here are a couple of things that didn't make the cut (because of space, not quality) for Dustin's Saturday story about Denny Hamlin:
Denny Hamlin will have luck with him as he attempts to qualify for NASCAR’s championship chase tonight at Richmond. He plans to wear a lucky white T-shirt autographed by Josh Woodfin, a friend. Hamlin says that every time he’s worn the shirt underneath his driver's uniform he’s never finished worse than 10th in a Cup race. A top-10 finish would get Hamlin in the chase.
The shirt's origins go back to last year at Richmond when Hamlin wore it as he signed autographs. Woodfin said he wanted to sign Hamlin's shirt and did so across the front of it.
Hamlin wore the shirt last fall when he qualified at Phoenix. He sat on the pole. That's when Woodfin, watching it on TV, noticed the shirt and told Hamlin it must be a lucky shirt. So far it has.
And:
A way to tell if Hamlin feels good going into a race, see if he's wearing his Rolex watch. He wears it in the race when he's happy with how practice went. He doesn't wear the watch if practice didn't go well.
So now you know. Make sure to impress your friends with these little bits of trivia. Anyone who wins any money on this ("Hey, I betcha Hamlin will be wearing a watch today"), make sure to cut me in on the action.
