End of an era
Here's the hot rumor around Talladega, according to Dustin Long:
GM Goodwrench out, Shell/Pennzoil (or some combination thereof) in as the sponsor of the 29.
I bring that up only for, well, obvious reasons.
RCR is announcing at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow Talladega time or 10:30 a.m. Greensboro time. You can watch it live here.
Amusing sidebar: The Shell flak who e-mailed me sent me the link and told me to watch it. Had something to do with racing - wouldn't even ID the series, for cryin' out loud, even when I asked nicely (for an assistant sports editor on a Friday). But when you click through to the link ... I'll wait for you to do that now ... look! it's Kevin Harvick!
Sorry I ruined the surprise.

I think Mark Martin leaving Roush is a bigger story.

The Martin-to-MB2 move was a bigger story ... yesterday.
But you can now file the Shell thing under "O" for "Old News" - practice speeds at the freshly paved Dega are around 198.

I hope Childress never brings the "3" back, but now he has the out because it would never be a black "3".
Martin in a Chevy is a bigger story though John; yesterday, today and the 3rd Sunday next February.
My question would be what has Ford gotten in return for losing 3 drivers with 2 Championships and about 70 or more wins in less than 12 months?

I doubt the black 3 will ever be back, and that's fine with me.

I can't get over that one though.
I know I'm probably a day late and a dollar short with my comments, but it's been a rough week. I'm surprised I still know my own name.
