Last wreck of 2006
Apparently Greg Biffle will get that prize, which will be a charred rear quarter panel mounted atop a shredded Goodyear tire.
The guy who helped pull Biffle out of his en fuego race car: Kyle Busch, younger brother of Kurt and brother-in-law to Eva, who had it out with Biffle's girlfriend back in April.
Lots of interesting subplots in what appears to be a routine crash. Conspiracy theorists, start your engines. Besides, it's about the only thing going on in racin' these days.
Update: In addition to being maybe the last wreck of 2006, it also might be the most serious -- Biffle dislocated his shoulder. Ouch. That's gotta hurt. Full release -- and Biffle's apology (though he has absolutely nothing to apologize for) for missing the Busch dinner -- after the jump.
Statement from Greg Biffle Regarding On-Track Incident At Vegas Test:
"During a tire test this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway I cut a right front tire and made heavy contact with the wall. As a result of the incident, I dislocated my shoulder and have been advised by my doctors to remain in Mooresville today for further assessment of the injury. It is for that reason that I will be unable to attend this year's NASCAR Busch Series Banquet. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to NASCAR, the Busch Series and Ameriquest for my absence. It was a privilege and a great pleasure for me to continue to be a competitor for Roush Racing, Ameriquest, Brewco Motorsports and Ford Motor Company in NASCAR's Busch Series this season. I love racing in the Busch Series and I plan to continue to do so for many years."

I was banking on Biffle making the 2007 Chase, but this injury may linger...Stewart's did!

Maybe. The difference here is that Biffle busted his shoulder during the offseason and Stewart cracked his shoulder during the season. I wouldn't count out Biffle unless he shows up at Speed Weeks in a shoulder sling or a leg cast or a body brace.
