Not about Junior or Gordon or Waltrip

There have been three main story lines this season:

1. Jeff Gordon is driving his guts out this season (which leads the Big Dog this week to ask the question, who's better: Gordon or Earnhardt Sr.? His answer, 8,000 words later: They were both winners! Oy.)

2. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is leaving DEI and the No. 8 behind.

3. Michael Waltrip has driven in only one more Cup race than I have this season.

What's below the fold doesn't fall into any of the above categories. Rather, it's in a broad arena I call simply Weird Stuff.

And here it is:

Former Texas stripper gets 40 months in NASCAR embezzlement case AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A former stripper was sentenced to nearly three-and-a-half years in federal prison Friday for attempting to embezzle more than $1 million from a bank to start her own NASCAR racing team. Fatemeh Angela Harkness, 31, of Red Rock, pleaded guilty in January 2004 to conspiring with banker Gary Jones to embezzle more than $1 million from his Austin bank from 2000 to 2003. She received a 40-month sentence. Harkness and Jones used the money to assemble a NASCAR team called Angela's Motorsports. The team, featuring driver Mike McLaughlin, entered cars in the Busch Grand National Series starting in late 2002. Harkness fled to Mexico before her sentencing in 2004 and continued on to the United Arab Emirates. She surrendered last month and was returned to the U.S. for sentencing. Harkness' attorney of record, Rick J. Kennon of Austin, did not immediately return calls for comment. Jones, who pleaded guilty to fraud, theft and embezzlement charges, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison in August 2004.

Maybe the only thing stranger than the AP story above is Angela's Motorsports' Wikipedia entry.

I don't view Mikey driving only one more race than you as one of the top stories of the year. John, technically you are ahead of Mikey without even competing since you are at 0 points and Mikey is still stuck on minus 27.

I remember Mike McLaughlin losing his ride a few years back due to this scheme. If I remember right Greg Zippadelli made sure McLaughlin had a car and an engine for the Busch race at Daytona that year.

They also hired Harold Holly as the crew chief for that team, and it took him a while to get back on his feet afterward.
