So it's Hendrick
The Junior press conference is going on now, and unless you're watching TV or listening to an online stream (I'm not - I've got work to do), there aren't many details out yet. Is Budweiser coming with him? What car number will he drive? Where is Kyle Busch going and when is he leaving? What in the heck is he thinking?
Here's one thing to mull as all of the above questions get answer: Will this move result in a Junior championship?
Hendrick produces winners, true. Two of Junior's new teammates have five Cup championships between them. But Junior's going to have to run over both of them to get the big trophy he says he wants so badly.
So can Junior use this move like the old Daytona slingshot? Or will it be more like getting out of line and losing 10 spots in a half lap?
I'll spare you some more (bad) racing metaphors if you start filling up the comments.

I cannot imagine Bud not going with him. I think that may have been one of the issues in looking towards JGR. I can't imagine JR. driving the korn Flake car. It needs to go with Baby Busch over to DEI.

OR...Bud stays at DEI, Busch goes to DEI, Busch Drives for Busch, as in Anheiser Busch, in the Bud car, versus his brother in the Miller Lite (no GHT) car.
It would make a great Movie. Not reality.
ALSO....numbers game here...8(Dale Jr.) lost his father who drove the 3. Simple subtractions leaves 5....the car he could be driving. All kinds of marketing magic could be derived from that silliness.

Beer and corn flakes, Clance'. Breakfast of champions.
One of the many scenarios floating around is that KyBu will head to DEI, which will allow DEI and Hendrick to swap numbers. I think Junior would like to keep the 8 -- it's his grandfather's old number -- but I think Hendrick would like to keep the 5. It was the number of the first car he put on the track back in 1984, and Terry Labonte won a championship with it in '96. And I'm not sure KyBu is all that tied to the number, not in the sense that Petty=43 and Gordon=24.

I believe I referenced this outcome as a possibility the day after little E drove the 5 at Texas when the Shrub left in a huff.
John, you're right the 5 stays at Hendrick as his original number.
My favorite line of the press conference was when Hendrick said that he now works for Kelly in order to maintain the Earnhardt brand.
